For some, New Year’s Day is the time to change things around, to make those resolutions that will alter the way you are living your life. It is a time for renewal and rebirth. Out with the old ways, and in with the new. For others, however, there is another changing-of-the-seasons moment around three months later – and it is a far more magical time. All sports have their first games of the season, but it is baseball that looks forward to and celebrates its opening day like no other. Young fans eagerly make their first trips to the ballpark,…
There’s plenty of boastful propaganda from and for this Trump administration when things look like a military rout against Venezuela’s Nicolás Madura, drug cartels or now in Iran. It’s less clear that anyone on Team Trump is willing to stand tall when the news is not so clear. Accountability for a war in Iran is no more at hand than it is for the excesses of ICE tactics or tariff effects on prices or the impact of Epstein files mishandling on victims of sexual abuse. On Monday, Donald Trump told a CBS reporter, “I think the war is very complete, pretty much.…
Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies, Accra and Lead Pastor of Revival Outreach Church, Abednego Feehi Okoe-Amartey, says graduating with a first-class degree does not necessarily guarantee success in life. Speaking in an interview with MzGee on the show Behind the Pulpit, Prof Okoe-Amartey emphasised that academic excellence must be supported by character and discipline. Addressing how he balances his role as a pastor with his work as a university lecturer, particularly when some students might expect leniency from him, he said firmness and discipline are essential to genuine learning. “It is a misunderstanding of who God is.…
Nollywood actress-turned-evangelist, Tonto Dikeh, has expressed deep regret over mistakes in her past, saying God used them to shape her voice into one that now speaks “truth, grace and redemption.” Her confession comes as she faces a ₦200 million lawsuit filed by human rights lawyer Ikechukwu Obasi over a viral deliverance session involving a minor. In the suit, Obasi accused Dikeh of violating the child’s rights to dignity and privacy during the deliverance ritual. The incident, which reportedly occurred on March 6, 2026, was captured in a video later shared on Dikeh’s Facebook page. The footage showed the child being…
March 1st, the second edition of Jazz with Jajja, organised by Natasha Karugire, took place at President Yoweri Museveni’s sprawling ranch in Kisozi, Gomba District. I am among many Ugandans encouraged by the emergence of this conversation series, the embarrassment of Kasuku’s begging notwithstanding. I think, if properly structured, this engagement can help cultivate an ideological foundation among Uganda’s youthful population and nurture a politically conscious citizenry capable of navigating an increasingly uncertain world. A Memory from 1989 My appreciation for public dialogue dates back to 1989. As a nine-year-old, my father and two of his brothers took me to a…
Women’s empowerment should not be treated as a seasonal conversation but as a long-term commitment woven into how businesses, institutions, and communities operate. That is the message Phos Creatives is advancing as conversations around women in business and digital spaces continue to gain momentum. In Uganda, that message is especially timely. The country’s digital economy is growing, with opportunities expanding across digital marketing, software development, e-commerce, fintech, and content creation. For Phos Creatives a female-led creative collective, supporting women is not something to be highlighted only during Women’s Month. “It is a lifelong commitment,” the founder, Rhoda Musiima, said. “Women…
Uganda has marked a historic milestone in its digital transformation journey with the official launch of ABQ Cloud, the country’s indigenous sovereign cloud ecosystem, unveiled at the Deep Tech Hub and Raxio Data Centre in Kampala. The landmark event, officiated by Monica Musenero Masanza, the minister of science, technology, and innovation, brought together leaders from the Science, Technology and Innovation Office of the President (STI-OP), ABQ Cloud, Raxio Data Centre, Roke Cloud, AfriQloud, EDiC, and Uganda’s innovation community. The launch represented a bold step toward securing Uganda’s digital independence by providing affordable, secure, and locally hosted cloud infrastructure designed to…
Spiro, Africa’s largest electric mobility company and a pioneer in battery-swapping infrastructure, has raised $50 million in debt financing to accelerate the expansion of its clean transport network across the continent. The funding round was backed by African Export- Import Bank, Nithio and Africa Go Green Fund, reinforcing investor confidence in the company’s rapid growth trajectory and long-term strategy. The new capital follows Spiro’s landmark $100 million investment in October 2025, the largest electric mobility investment recorded in Africa to date. The latest financing will support the continued rollout of Spiro’s battery-swapping infrastructure in both existing and new markets, while…
Female teachers in Uganda have been urged to engage in income-generating activities beyond their teaching salaries to secure financial independence and improve their livelihoods. The advice came from Workers’ Representative in Parliament, Agnes Kunihira Abwoli, during celebrations organised by the Uganda Professional Science Teachers’ Union (UPSTU) in Kampala as female science teachers marked International Women’s Day. Addressing teachers from across the country, Abwoli emphasised the importance of women having personal financial resources. “It is very important for women to have some money in their pockets because it helps them support their families and raise their children in a better way,”…
Parents, teachers, and pupils at Kaseese Parents Nursery and Primary School in Kakinga Parish, Kibanda Sub-county, Rakai District, have raised concern over the deteriorating state of the community-founded school, urging government and well-wisher intervention. The school was established in 2019 by parents seeking to reduce long walking distances that had forced many children, especially girls, to drop out. Before the school was founded, children reportedly walked up to four kilometres to access the nearest government primary school, exposing them to risks including sexual abuse and early marriages. “Some children would return home saying they no longer want to study, yet…
